Septic Systems and Excavation Out of Milford

A Septic System and Excavation Contractor in Milford

Sawkill Environmental is a septic system and excavation contractor based in Milford, PA. Most of our work is new septic system installation on rural and lake community lots with no public sewer. We also repair failing systems, dig foundations, cut trenches, clear lots and grade sites. We are licensed and insured, PA HIC #PA225040.

Sawkill Environmental was formed by Jeff Barwick after he moved to Pike County. Before that he owned and ran a large excavation company in the New York City area. That company handled major commercial projects, including airport work. The ground here is different: shallow bedrock, glacial till and buried boulders.

On a septic job we start by digging the soil test pits for the township sewage enforcement officer. The design and the permit go through that office, plus a soil scientist or engineer where required. We install the tank, distribution box and absorption area to the approved design, then finish the grading. Repairs on failing systems run the same way, with the work cut down to the part that failed.

We run our own excavators and equipment, so the dig, the rock and the backfill stay with one company. The same machines handle foundation and utility digs, drainage, land clearing, grading and retaining walls. We work about 25 miles out from Milford, into Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York. Estimates are free, so call or text (973) 552-8580 and we will come look at the site.

How We Run

Three Things You Can Count On

One Company for the Whole Job

The test pits, the tank, the distribution box and the absorption area are all our work. The backfill, the grading and the drainage around the system stay with the same company.

Built to the Approved Design

In Pennsylvania a septic permit goes through the township sewage enforcement officer. We install what the approved plan shows, in the spot it shows. We are licensed and insured, PA HIC #PA225040.

Rock and Wet Ground Are Normal Here

Shallow sandstone and shale ledge, glacial till and buried boulders sit under many lots in Pike County. We plan the dig around what is under the topsoil, then bring the machine that can move it.

How We Work

How a Job With Sawkill Environmental Runs

From the first call or text to the final grading, here is how it goes.

1

Call or text

Call or text (973) 552-8580 and tell us about the property. New builds, empty lots and failing systems all start here.

2

Free on-site estimate

We come out and look at the property, the soil and where a system can fit. Estimates are free.

3

Testing, design and permit

We dig the soil test pits. The township sewage enforcement officer runs the probes and the percolation tests, and approves the design. In New Jersey and New York, the county health department issues the permit.

4

Tank, lines and absorption area

Once the permit is issued, we set the tank and run the lines to the distribution box. Then we build the absorption area to the approved design. Conventional in-ground beds and elevated sand mounds are both common on lots around here.

5

Inspection, backfill and final grade

The system gets inspected before anything is covered. In Pennsylvania the township sewage enforcement officer does that inspection. Then we backfill, grade the ground back out and clean up the site.
